Our Church, Our Tribe

The Arfstoll church of Theodish Belief is dedicated to reviving the folkways of the northern European people. It is our hope to reconstruct those folkways in order to strengthen our bonds of community, friendship, and family. We are doing nothing less than re-forging the ancient ties of belonging to a tribe, and there is no greater gratification than belonging to something meaningful, and larger than yourself.

We practice this folkway, known as Theodish Belief, which emphasizes the bonds of the community and the development of a worldview and culture that our ancient forebears would have honored, and uses these tools to to forge a connection between the individual and the Divine. We believe in and honor the Gods and Goddesses of the North, the spirits of the land, and the memories of our ancestors.

Ours is not an easy path to follow, but our halls are open to all who believe they have what it takes to face the fires of ordeal that the modern world throws at them.

Most of the knowledge of the beliefs and practices of Theodish Belief are not really able to be transmitted by text; they require face-to-face contact to learn and become internalized. For that reason, we encourage those who find the material herein interesting to look to our upcoming calendar of events to learn more. There’s so much that cannot be learned by reading, so much that must be experienced. If you’re willing to learn, we’re happy to teach.

Tuesday Night Lore Study in Byram, NJ

Come join us for a laid back discussion on various points of the lore of the Germanic peoples (sagas, myths, history, etc.) and how they are relevant to the problems and issues of the modern world. A specific topic will be chosen for each session. Beginners and newcomers are especially welcome– no need to prepare or study in advance. This event is open to all. Feel free to bring dinner for yourself.

We will meet at Joe hersir’s home in Byram (smoker, cats, and dog in residence for those with allergies) on the first and third Tuesday of the month (see the calendar for specific dates and times). Email events@arfstoll.org to RSVP and get directions or if you have questions.
